A VISIT TO LOTUSLAND

Our Day in Santa Barbara, Sunday, July 11, 2004

Ganna Walska, the creator of Lotusland, was a famous opera singer during the early 20th century, who later devoted herself to her preferred canvas, her 37 acre landscape. She left it to the future to admire and experience. Full of inspiration, Lotusland is a natural wonderland, an artistic work of one woman who saw nature as an art form. There are more than a dozen distinct gardens. Walking winding paths, suddenly and gently, new and exotic worlds open before you. We walked those paths and bloomed in her garden last Sunday with our dear friends Nan and Pete Evans, four of their visiting grandchildren, and one of the presiding Lotusland cats . It was our last visit to our Santa Barbara home before leaving for our trip to Korea and Japan on Thursday, July 15.

Lotusland is in Montecito, near Santa Barbara, California.
It is open for docent-led walking tours mid-February through mid-November. The tours, by reservation only, are 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is $15 for adults and children 10 and older $8 for children under 10; and free for children under For reservations, call 805 969-9990.
